Orthokeratology – or ortho-k for short – is a non-surgical, temporary and reversible treatment which is suitable for many patients with mild to moderate myopia (short-sightedness).

Ortho-k has been around since the mid 1960’s. It’s a great option for people who want to be free of their glasses or contact lenses during the day.

What’s involved?
Individually-designed rigid contact lenses are worn overnight to reshape the cornea gently whilst you sleep. This corrects short-sightedness and small amounts of astigmatism. The following morning, you will be able to see without using your glasses and this effect generally lasts for the entire day.

What are the benefits?
There are many! Freedom from glasses and contact lenses is the main attraction for most patients but ortho-k is also:

  • Great for slowing or stopping myopia in children and teenagers
  • Great for sportspeople
  • Great for boosting self-confidence and appearance, particularly for teens
  • Great for people working in dusty, dirty, steamy environments (tradespeople, chefs)
  • Great for people prone to allergies and irritation from conventional contact lenses use
